National Trust of Australia Queensland (NTAQ) is a membership-based organisation & registered charity that works to protect, conserve, and celebrate the Environmental, Built and Cultural heritage of our State. This intern/work experience opportunity is based Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary (CWS) which is the head office and largest property within the NTAQ portfolio; home to a varied collection of Australian Wildlife and exotics animals located near to beautiful Currumbin beach.

We have 2 exciting Internship/Work experience opportunities within our small WHS team, based in the heart of the Sanctuary. Both are different but expose the right candidates to invaluable WHS experience as you will be reporting to and working alongside our WHS Advisor. Throughout the internship/work experience you will have clear guidelines and support and contribute greatly to our organisation.


Details about internship/work experience:

Position 1:

  • To understand and be familiar with Wildlife Sanctuary’s WHS policies, procedures and standard operating procedures {SOP}.
  • Use existing WHS policies and procedures documents to edit and suit a new work location
  • Support other existing projects within the WHS department.
  • Preferable day per week is Wednesday.


Position 2:

  • To understand and be familiar with Wildlife Sanctuary’s WHS online induction and training programs
  • Use current online induction and training modules and update
  • Using software – Time and People and Who’s on location
  • Support other existing projects within the WHS department.
  • Preferable day per week is Saturday or Friday.


Selection Criteria:

  • Suited to a tech-savvy student studying Work, Health & Safety.
  • Be comfortable working with various software programs.
  • Availability for both roles needed are above.
  • Able to communicate in a professional and friendly manner, across all age groups and cultural backgrounds.
  • Be willing to wear required uniform and comply with all company policies, procedures and induction training.
  • Able to adapt to sudden change in work priorities and re prioritise tasks in hand.
  • Ability to accurately follow instructions, ask questions confidently and have a confidential manner.
  • Able to work independently and harmoniously as part of a friendly team.


The internship is based at Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary in Currumbin, one day per week for a 3-month period.
