Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary (CWS) is located on the southern end of Gold Coast. We are the largest attraction within the National Trust of Australia (Queensland) portfolio and feature a vibrant and varied collection of Australian wildlife and non-native exotics located just one block back from beautiful Currumbin beach.

CWS is currently seeking an energetic individual to join our Animal Encounters / Presentations team. The Team holds responsibility for the design and delivery of guest interactions /photographic memories for our visitors with our collection Animals. This role will involve training and conditioning of animals, animal handling, as well as hosting small to large group presentations. The successful candidate will be someone that has an innovative approach to excellent customer service and a high level of general wildlife knowledge and skills.

Position details & duties

This role is a unique opportunity to contribute to revenue generation through promoting and selling our animal encounters, delivering these special experiences to guests and to train and care for the animals involved.

You will deliver an engaging, entertaining, and professional experience and ensure high levels of guest satisfaction
You will utilise your animal training skills and guest engagement expertise to promote and perform daily one-on-one animal encounters, whilst meeting daily photography and product sales targets.
The role will involve training/conditioning wildlife and animal handling as well as animal husbandry, monitoring animal health, presentations, and other duties as required.
You will deliver and present information about native and exotic wildlife to educate guests about animal conservation issues in a fun and friendly manner.
You will be flexible to assist other departments with presentations, school tours and animal focused lessons.
You will be comfortable hosting small to large group presentations, participating in wildlife photo sessions & assisting with show productions.
This is a Part time position working a minimum of 14 hours
Pay and work conditions are under the Amusements, Events & Recreation Award 2020.
This is an outdoor role in a non-smoking environment. Non-smokers are preferred.
Start date as soon as possible.

Selection Criteria:
Must hold Certificate 3 in Captive Animal Management.
Ability to deliver professional, entertaining, informative and engaging public performances, able to work from both scripts and deliver unscripted presentations to small groups of all ages & nationalities
Must be comfortable with liaising and presenting to the media.
High level of energy, communication skills and teamwork skills.
Previous experience in training and care for animals with a strong working knowledge of operant conditioning.
A genuine reliable, flexible and positive attitude and a high standard of personal presentation is required.
Must hold a current driver’s licence.
You must be able to work with a variety of native and exotic species including birds of prey, parrots, reptiles, and mammals.
Experience in tourism with a very high standard of customer service.
Cash handling and upselling experience
Knowledge of the attractions and products of Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary.
Appropriate fitness to walk long distances, stand for long periods and ability to carry/support up to 10kg for a prolonged period.
We are a 7 day a week operation. Full availability required over weekends and school holiday periods.
