This role sits within our Property Services Department which manages Council's commercial property portfolio and Regional Leisure Venues. The department seeks to maximise commercial returns to the Council through the acquisition, leasing, and disposal of properties, and management of assets including Aerodromes, public swimming pools, the Queensland State Equestrian Centre, Redcliffe Entertainment Centre, Morayfield Sport and Events Centre, and caravan parks. The Department employs approximately 65 positions and manages an annual operational budget of approximately $21M, with revenues in excess of $10m.

About our opportunity

We are welcoming a new Duty Manager to join our leadership team at the Morayfield Sport and Events Centre (MSEC)!

MSEC is a dynamic and busy multi-purpose venue, comprising of five indoor timber sprung courts, a large indoor event space, meeting rooms and an onsite cafe that can be hired to facilitate and cater events and activities for over 3000 people, 7 days a week.

The Duty Manager position will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the venue and delivering and maintaining quality customer services and positive experiences for all clients, patrons and vendors. This includes being responsible for the following duties on a day to day basis:

  • The daily venue operational procedures in accordance with centre checklists, briefing notes and industry guidelines;
  • Providing exceptional leadership, direction and support to the Centre Services team including relevant training of staff as required;
  • Coordinating all routine kiosk services, including the preparation and service of food and beverage, in compliance with food and liquor license obligations;
  • Delivering outstanding customer service to venue staff, customers, patron and contractors;
  • Fostering a positive working environment and leading by example;
  • Developing self and others with a positive attitude; and
  • Acting as a Responsible Manager of a Licensed Venue (when required).
The Duty Manager position will be employed on a casual basis across a 7-day roster with late night shifts. It is anticipated hours will average between 10 & 25 per week, however this is subject to change based on demand and the working environment.

About you

We're looking for a motivated team leader who finds it easy to build and maintain positive relationships with all people you meet! You will have a demonstrated ability and willingness to partner with other Duty Managers and lead a team of Centre Service Attendants to coordinate and deliver activities & events with enthusiasm and exceptional customer service.

In addition, you will have experience and personal attributes that complement the following:
  • A supervisory role within a sports, recreation, hospitality or events facility;
  • Leading, coaching & supporting team members in operational tasks and processes;
  • Prioritising multiple tasks and coordinating teams in a busy environment;
  • Taking a hands-on approach to physical tasks required to open/close the venue and prepare spaces for activities and events;
  • Using initiative to develop and apply solutions to operational challenges and issues; and
  • Monitoring compliance and undertaking risk management processes in line with health and safety requirements.
You will be comfortable and flexible to work a 7 day roster with early start and late finish shifts, including weekends and public holidays. You will also hold the following requirements or be able to obtain prior to commencement:
  • Paid Queensland Working with Children Blue Card
  • RMLV certificate
  • Apply First Aid Certification
  • Food Safety Training certification
  • Approved Manager Licence

Award/Level: Qld Local Government Industry Award (Stream B) - Level 7, Schedule 4 of the Moreton Bay Regional Council EBA4 Certified Agreement

Location: Morayfield Sport and Events Centre
  • $38.74 per hour (including casual loading) + super (9.5%)
