An opportunity is now open for an active and energetic individual or couple, who are physically fit to fulfill full-time animal carer and caretaking duties on a small island retreat in Central QLD.

The successful candidate must be self-motivated, reliable, and have a keen interest in marine wildlife, native animals and gardening, with an exposure to maintaining fuel and solar generated equipment

Quoin Island Retreat is privately owned, situated only 5 km from the Gladstone Harbour on Central QLD coast.

Quoin Island houses one of QLD's most prominent turtle rehabilitation centre's, with the major component of this job being the caring of sick and injured sea turtles, 7 days a week, 365 days a year in a animal hospital environment.

Each day on Quoin is different and whilst our work is mainly caring for the Turtles we have other tasks to complete, this will include:

Feeding/Caring for Turtles (majority of prepping food - seafood)
Cleaning Turtle enclosure/tanks (it is not glamourous nor does it smell fantastic)
Lifting and handling animals and products - (must be able to lift & carry 20kg)
Preparing food for animals (majority of prepping large quantities of seafood food for the turtles)
Feeding/Caring for resident animals
General property maintenance (daily machine checks for self powered island, cleaning, mowing, raking, sweeping, swimming pool maintenance etc)
Knowledge of generators, pool pumps, sewerage treatment plant and desalination plats will be looked upon as highly desirable

We have a beautiful picturesque 10-hectare property with an array of animals. It is very quiet and peaceful with only but a few neighbors.

This position would suit a fit and healthy individual or a retired couple who are willing to get in and complete daily duties as if it was their own home / property, without any fuss and enjoy the peaceful surrounds of an island retreat to live and work whilst caring for animals.

Requirements to fulfil this position:
Genuine love and interest in animals (previous vet/ nurse experience is not neccessary however an understanding of animal husbandry will be looked upon favourably)
Ability to work autonomously
Ability to follow instructions and take direction from senior management
Sound computer, written and verbal skills with a proactive approach to providing regular feedback
Current QLD Boat license
Minimum commitment of 12months

In return we will offer:
Salary $30,000 - $50,000 per annum pending experience and if single or couple application
Accommodation board and lodging - valued at $25,000 per annum
Furnished self contained accommodation

Weekly food allowance

Please note this position does not offer farming visa sign off
The successful applicant must be available for public holidays and throughout the Christmas and New Year period
