Mad About Cakes is a boutique bakery specialising in dietary requirement custom cakes and desserts for weddings, private and corporate events. Everything we create is hand made and custom designed with each clients unique style and event theme in mind.

We are looking for an energetic, passionate and experienced baker and decorator to join our team. They will be working with the owner 1 on 1 in a commercial kitchen and studio space baking a range of cakes and desserts from scratch along with decorating and creating custom designs. No day is the same with new and exciting projects to work on.

We strive to create delicious, unique and one of a kind designs. Applicants need to be creative, passionate about baking and design, eager to learn new skills and confident to share exisiting skills and knowledge. A strong knowledge of baking is required along with some experience in decorating cakes and desserts.

Applicants are expected to work during standard business hours (or as required according to work flow) contribute to kitchen cleaning and maintenance, handle the pressure of large workloads and short turn around times, be a team player and know how to have some fun! Consumption of cakes, desserts and recipe testing is nonnegotiable!

General working hours: Monday -Friday 9-6pm. Weekends may be required during peak seasons (such as Christmas).

Responsibilities and tasks:

  • Baking cake mixes and doughs in bulk
  • Creating frosting in bulk
  • Dessert baking such as cookie rolling, cutting and baking.
  • Creating cake decorations such meringues, chocolate waves, macarons
  • Making cake fillings such as custards and curds
  • Levelling cakes, stacking and filling and decorating
  • Cleaning of all utensils, equipment and kitchen areas
  • Stock management, rotation and storage
  • Packaging of cakes and desserts
  • Research and development for new products and recipes

Minimum requirements:

  • Completed Year 12 or equivalent
  • Ideally work experience in a bakery or as a pastry chef/decorator
  • Fluent in English, positive attitude, works well with others, timely, clean and presentable
  • Excited to learn and keen to share
  • No exisiting injuries that will prevent applicant from standing for long periods or lifting heavy items (e.g 15kg bag of chocolate, 8kg wedding cake)
