We are seeking an agricultural enthusiast to join our school community in a temporary part-time capacity working in our Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program. In this role, you will contribute to the efficient and effective operation of the school by providing a high level of agricultural systems support to the nominated school staff. This temporary part-time position consists of 5 hours per week.

This temporary vacancy is open to Expressions of Interest and accordingly any appointment (and extension to this appointment) will not extend beyond 12 months.

About Aspley Special School

Aspley Special school is unique in that it is the only special school in the Brisbane City Council area that provides programs for only secondary aged students with disability.

This uniqueness has enabled the school to develop and maintain a focus on learning experiences tailored to preparing students for post-school life. As such, all programs are centred on ensuring students are ready to transition into the broader community as independently as possible.

Your Role

This position is flexible with time and days and can be spread across 2 days per week (with a minimum 2hr per shift).

The successful candidate will work under instruction of the teacher in charge of the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden program and will perform duties such as:

  • Preparation of all agricultural field sites and agricultural machinery, equipment and materials.
  • Planting, watering and care of crops and market gardens and related duties including regular physical maintenance and the use of appropriate insecticides and fertilisers where necessary.
  • Take simple measurements, for example, weighing crop yields.
  • Order and/or collect general agricultural supplies and materials as authorised by the Head of Department, Principal or nominated delegate.
  • Animal husbandry, crop and soil improvement and enhancement activities.
  • Other relevant agricultural duties as directed by the Head of Department, Principal or nominated delegate.

When working in regulated employment an employee must have a current Working with Children Clearance (blue card) issued by Blue Card Services.

This is a OO2 progressional position as per the Role Description. The successful applicant will be appointed to the OO2 classification with eligibility for progression to the OO3 level (as per QLD Public Service Award 2015) once specific criteria have been met. Salary rate shown is reflective of OO2 to OO3 classification range.
